Miami Heat Season preview

Posted by Editorial Team

The Miami Heat Season preview is one of potential delight and enjoyment. The team made a decision after two seasons to acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo. The franchise shifted from a mission of developing its young talent to sharpening veteran players (like Antetokounmpo, Tim Hardaway Jr. and Bam Adebayo.)

He is stating that the practices “are real” and the pace is fast as per an article in the Athletic. He posted a video on Instagram of his first encounter with an iguana at his new home. Bill Simmons, a lifelong Celtics fan, told Zach Lowe that no one would be able to guard Jayson Tatum so the Heat would return to the play-in.

Giannis apparently is “a troll” according to Bobby Portis. Earlier last week in a press conference, he let out a comment saying:

“I’ve never been apart of something like this. — I want to leave my mark. I want to know when this chapter is over, if I’m only here for a year, two or whatever it’s going to be I want to leave my mark”

The argument against Giannis is a tall one — he hasn’t played much in the last few years, hasn’t helped Milwaukee get back to the NBA Finals and is older. Many critics state that Miami gave up too much to acquire Giannis and that the franchise will not achieve any net success.

Giannis appears to be in-shape in training camp and if he can play 70-75 games this season, will be in conversations for Most Valuable Player. Bam Adebayo has a proper “co-pilot” to divide scoring and defensive responsibilities. It will be interesting to see if the Heat can remove the burden of defensive responsibilities off him so he can excel on offense.

The Heat acquired Tim Hardaway Jr., Bobby Portis and others to challenge the Eastern Conference for the top six playoff seeds. Even though the Heat made the NBA Finals in 2023 as the eighth seed, Heat fans were bored of constantly having to fight upwards (knowing that they weren’t good enough as the 2023 team.)

Heat franchise new stage

Last season at their press conferences, Pat Riley said the following of the Heat:

“We are going to be very aggressive. You can’t just say, ‘ive me a blueprint, Pat.’ I know we need to make some changes roster wise. We’re not good enough. We have an opportunity to do something with our flexibility.”

Heat Head Coach Erik Spoelstra said:

“…We weren’t able to necessarilly maximize what we felt the potential of this group could be, but there were still some good takeaways.”

As a fan, the acquisition of Giannis Antetokounmpo comes two seasons off of the trade of Jimmy Butler to the Golden State Warriors. Butler came in 2019 to the Heat and propelled the Heat to be perennial contenders in the Eastern Conference.

Tyler Herro was traded to Milwaukee in exchange for Giannis. After seven years of potential hope, the Heat decided to “cut their losses” with Herro. His constant injuries, the supposed reports of his PR team (and family) leveraging him to miss games and his defensive limits created “the body of work.”

The Heat “were the bad guys of the NBA” during Butler’s tenure and gave this writer “a sense of identity” not felt since the time of “the Heatles.” In the last two seasons, the NBA has missed “a bad guy,” “a villainous team.” They tried to make Victor Wembanyama the villain, but it didn’t work. Perhaps, Giannis and Bam will give opposing fans something to admire (root against) this season.
