The Miami 305 lost to Houston in today’s games of the Big 3 basketball league. Houston had lost ten straight games before today’s game. The Champions are off to a slow start this season. The 305 team lost a ten point lead in the second half to Houston.
305 title defense isn’t good to start
The opening game for the team started with an on-court dust-up between Michael Beasley and Dwight Howard. The Big 3 league staggered their suspensions so Beasley didn’t play in the home opener on July 5th. Beasley and Howard made up via Howard’s Instagram post where he asked him to “calm the extra.”
The home opener ended up a buzz-kill as the 305 lost to Chicago by 12 (50-38.) Lance Stephenson was the high scorer in that game with 22. Today, the 305 led Houston by 10 points in the second half. Then Houston made a comeback, going on an 11-0 run to take the lead 48-47.
Both Sean Williams and Mario Chalmers missed bunny layups to take the lead. Then the team took desperate three-pointers instead of strategic plays to get the score. The 305 will play undefeated Dallas Power next week in Chicago for Week 6.
“Bring the Fire” is a great innovation
The Big 3 league is similar to other rival sports leagues in that they showcase in-game innovations that the main league may think too risky. The “Bring the Fire” coaching call can be done once per half where a player that got fouled has to score on the person that fouled him to get the two points. The ABA showcased the three-point line and the XFL won recognition with the new kickoff style in NFL games.
